FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

1. What locations do you serve?
Tulsa, Owasso, Bixby, Sapulpa, Broken Arrow, Jenks, Sand Springs and more. If your city is not listed, call us, we most likely have tutors near your area.

2. Do you use your own curriculum?
We tutor from your child’s school curriculum, not a company-owned curriculum. We want to avoid potential “loss of transfer” in what our students are studying. We utilize your child’s textbooks, worksheets, homework, and project assignments.

3. Will Benchmark Tutors test my child to find out their strengths & weaknesses?
Benchmark Tutors can provide diagnostic testing for students Kindergarten though high school in English/Language Arts, Science, Social Studies and Mathematics. Each test is aligned to state and national standards. See our “Test Prep” page for more information.

4. How is Benchmark Tutors different from a learning center?
At Benchmark In-Home Tutoring, our tutors come directly to you. You do not need to drop off your child unless you choose a public location as your service location. Our tutors will design a program for your child which is based on their school’s curriculum, not a pre-determined program that may not relate to what your child is working on in school. We can also contact your child’s teacher, with your permission, to be sure your child is on the right track and everyone is in agreement on progress.

5. Does Benchmark Tutors supply any learning materials for the tutoring sessions?
We highly recommend that your child bring home their school books or any other materials they are working on in their class which relates to the subject(s) we are tutoring. In some cases our tutors will provide materials if it complements what your child is learning. However, we do not provide a curriculum. We will help you attain materials from your child’s school or direct you to several resources where you may purchase the appropriate books, etc.

6. Does tutoring always take place in my home?
Yes, we come to you at your convenience. We require that a parent or guardian over the age of 21 be at home for the entire tutoring session. If preferred, we can offer tutoring at a public location of your choosing.

7. What are your tutors’ qualifications?
Our tutors are full-time credentialed teachers, substitute teachers, retired teachers or expert from the private sector. We check all references, obtain background checks and personally interview every tutor. We want the best of the best working for Benchmark and take pride in the professionalism of our tutors.

8. What if my child doesn’t like the tutor?
If, after the first session is complete, you do not think the tutor is a good match with your child, please contact us immediately and you will not be charged for the session. Another tutor will be provided.

9. Is there a minimum number of sessions for which I have to commit and how long is each session?
No, we do not have any long-term contracts. We come to you when you need us and you never have to worry about meeting a set amount of hours. We work with your schedule. However, we strongly suggest a minimum of six sessions in order to really see progress. Sessions generally last one hour.

10. Do your tutors work with learning disabled or special needs children?
Yes, many of our tutors are Special Needs Certified and will be able to work in conjunction with your child’s I.E.P. or 504 Plan. Please see our “Special Services” section.

11. I home school my child. Can you help me?
Yes. Many of our tutors have experience working with home schooled children. We will even provide group rates (for same subject area) for those who would like to save on costs.

12. How long do I have to wait to get a tutor assigned to my child?
After your personal consultation, Benchmark staff will contact one of our tutors within 48 hours. The tutor will then contact you to introduce themselves, get directions to your home, and set up the first session. The tutor will work with you to establish a schedule which is convenient for you and your child.

13. What geographical areas do you service?
We have tutors throughout the state of Oklahoma. If you live in a rural area, please contact us, we will do our best to help you find the right tutor.

14. Do you provide test preparation for the SAT and ACT tests?
Yes, we will help your student prepare for both exams. We highly recommend that you contact us at least six weeks before the test so our tutors have enough time to help your child prepare. See our “Test Prep” section for more information.

15. Do you accept major credit cards?
Yes. We do accept credit cards and checks. We can also provide an online payment link for quick, easy payments. You always have the option to change your preferred method of payment by contacting us.

16. How do I get started?
Just give us a call or complete our online Client Contact Form. One of our staff will contact you within 24 hours to set up your complimentary in-home consultation. During the consultation, please have all relevant school work, progress reports, report cards and testing results (if applicable) available.
